In keeping with WAM’s unique mission, we select a beneficiary for each Mainstage production and donate a portion of proceeds from the production to them. Those beneficiaries are always organizations taking action for gender equity.  Below you will find all our past beneficiaries. Since 2010 WAM has donated $75,000 to 19 beneficiaries.

WAM has a committee that decides on the beneficiary that is made up of WAM staff, board members, artists, volunteers and donors. There is a rigorous selection process that begins with creating a list of possible beneficiaries based on the theme of the play being produced and how the mission of the beneficiary aligns with that theme. We then do a Request for Proposals, which are scored on a rubric, followed by site visits of the top three before one or two organizations are selected as our next beneficiary. Our intention is to donate funds to organizations both in our local communities as well as worldwide. For our global beneficiaries, in addition to connecting to the themes of the play, we also look to the organizations highlighted in “Half the Sky: Turning Oppression Into Opportunity Worldwide” by Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn, which is the book that inspired WAM Theatre.
