In our community program we work in collaboration with other local artistic groups or service organizations to provide a specific theatre program to groups of women and girls.
2016 partners: Girls Inc. in Pittsfield
2015 partners: Girls Inc. in Pittsfield and ACT NOW (After School Theatre Program), Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center (South County Stories Project)
Under the leadership of WAM Theatre teaching artists, participants in our community programs work together to produce original material that explores issues of importance in their lives. The participants learn important skills such as cooperation and collaboration, confidence in speaking, and group creativity. The emphasis for this program is on the skills acquired by the participants during the process.
Words used by our current Girls Inc. participants to describe what they take away from the program include “kindness”, “confidence”, “respectfulness”, “helping”, and “brave”.
The Community Program is an important part of our connection with the local community, and enables us to identify strong potential participants for our WAM Theatre Girls Ensemble.
