2016 Season
The 2016 season saw us set new goals, reach new milestones and begin this education program. We also aided these beneficiaries by mounting the following amazing productions:
Facing Our Truth
February 6: In 2013, The New Black Fest in New York City commissioned six very diverse playwrights to write 10-minute plays on the topic of Trayvon Martin, race and/or privilege.
In Motion Pittsfield Literary Party
February 19: As part of the 2016 10×10 Upstreet Arts Festival in Pittsfield, five amazing organizations are coming together to celebrate the historic authors that are connected to Pittsfield.
Special
March 18-20: Based on personal experience and inspired by interviews with mothers of children with special needs, SPECIAL follows one woman’s journey after she discovers she is pregnant with a child with Down syndrome.
2016 24 Hour Theatre Project
April 2: The clock starts ticking when the playwrights’ fingers hit their keyboards and ends with a final bow from 50+ theatre artists who have convened for just 24 hours to create and present five new works.
2016 Fresh Takes Reading Series
April-September: WAM’s play reading series will give a stage to new and reimagined works that tell women’s stories.
Stars In The Orchard Benefit
July 14: After the success of last year’s benefit, we are doing it again! A magical midsummer night’s cocktail party to benefit WAM Theatre.
The Revolutionists – Chester/WAM Reading
July 28: Four beautiful, badass women lose their heads in this irreverent, girl-powered comedy set during the French Revolution. This is a FREE reading of Lauren Gunderson’s smart, sly play in partnership with Chester Theatre.
The Bakelite Masterpiece
September 29-October 23: At the end of World War II, the artist van Meegeren is arrested for selling a long-lost painting by Vermeer to Hermann Goering, Nazi leader.
