Articles: Women in Theatre, addressing the gender bias

WAM Theatre strongly believes that educating women and girls worldwide can slowly but surely result in the removal of the gender bias that still exists in so many areas of society, including the theatre. The article below focuses on what is being done by Canadian theatres, notably Nightwood Theatre, to address this gender bias in theatre.

There are so many great articles out there that relate to the gender bias of women in theatre. In June, the New York Times published a thought provoking article on rethinking the gender bias in theatre focusing on the research done by Emily Glassberg Sands, whose report can actually be downloaded by clicking on the praxis theatre article above. Well worth reading.

Below is the link to the New York Times article from June 23, 2009.

I even just retweeted an article about gender politics in theatre in Australia last night. Check it out at:

The Gan-e-meed Theatre Project in Boston has some good links on their homepage to articles as well. Check them out at:

I’d love to receive comments or tweets with links to other articles from around the world that explore the gender bias in theatre….I imagine the list will be endless…..

Can you imagine how useful it be to get all these relevant articles in one place? It would certainly facilitate future research done in this area. If this has already been done somewhere, my research has not yet discovered it, so if you have found it, let me know.
