Roe v. Wade Overturned Today

Roe v. Wade Overturned Today

WAM Theatre is sickened by the immensity of this historic ruling, and all that it represents. Today, in addition to the millions of women who lost the right to choose, we also think of the millions of people who have spent their lives fighting for reproductive rights.

The consequences and precedent of today’s ruling are devastating and all-encompassing. It’s personal. It has lasting effects for the future of all women, girls, and folx who were born female— especially to the most young, vulnerable, and economically disadvantaged, and it will be felt around the world.
As always, WAM stands in community and solidarity with our sister social justice and arts organizations who fight for the rights of women and girls everyday.

WAM commits to doing everything we can to ensure the safety, health, and opportunities of women and girls. While today we grieve alongside you; tomorrow we will get back to work.

Kristen’s May 2022 Letter to the Editor of the Berkshire Edge

“.. Among other things, a ban on abortion is sexist, racist, and classist.”

WAM Theatre Producing Artistic Director, Kristen van Ginhoven

“…tens of millions of people across the country will lose access to abortion, and the majority of those impacted by a lack of access to safe abortion will be low-income, Black and Latinx people. Will that galvanize anti-abortion activists to create a plan to allocate the long-term resources required to take care of the new humans who will be born into foster care, poverty and unwanted homes?”

“Why is the conversation in this country always so squarely focused on abortion and not on sex education, consent, healthy relationships, self esteem and aspiration, women’s reproductive health in general, and other efforts which are proven to reduce the need for safe and legal abortions? That has always boggled my mind.”

WAM Amplifies

At this time, we would again, like to amplify and encourage you to join us in supporting the work of our ROE beneficiaries: Abortion Rights Fund of Western Massachusetts (ARFWM) here in our own state and Sister Song, that works in states where abortion access has been restricted, as well as all the other Reproductive Justice organizations doing tireless work across the country to protect the health of women and girls.  Please see abortionfunds.org as a resource.
