How Dr. Nina Molin Claims Her Place

Reserve your place now for WAM Theatre’s Claiming Her Place benefit on Sunday, June 30 at 7:00 pm.

Nina Molin, MD, is a physician at Ananda Health Center for Integrative Medicine.

Is there a quote–from a song, movie, book, poem, TV show, etc.–that seems relevant to the subject of claiming your place and facing challenges in your working life?

Four quotes have been on my desk at work at various times this year to inspire and comfort me:

  • “And the time came when the risk it took to remain tight in the bud became more painful than the risk it took to blossom.” – Anais Nin
  • “Lokah samasta sukhino bhavantu” (May all beings everywhere be happy and free and may the thoughts, words and actions of my own life contribute in some way to that happiness and to that freedom for all.)
  • Non Illegitimi Carborundum”  (don’t let the bastards grind you down)
  • Lastly, the lyrics to the Frank Sinatra song, “That’s Life”:

“That’s life, that’s what people say.

You’re riding high in April,
Shot down in May.
But I know I’m gonna change their tune,
When I’m right back on top in June.

That’s life, funny as it seems.
Some people get their kicks,
Steppin’ on dreams
But I just can’t let it get me down,
Cause this big old world keeps spinnin’ around.

I’ve been a puppet, a pauper, a pirate,
A poet, a pawn and a king.
I’ve been up and down and over and out
But I know one thing:
Each time I find myself flat on my face,
I pick myself up and get back in the race.

That’s life, I can’t deny it,
I thought of quitting,
But my heart just won’t buy it.
Cause if I didn’t think it was worth a try,
I’d have to roll myself up in a big ball and die.”

    Good times and bum times.
I’ve seen ’em all and my dear
    I’m still here…………

I got through all of last year and I’m here.
Lord knows at least I was there
    and I’m here
    I’m still here
    look who’s here
