How Playwright Susan Dworkin Claims Her Place

Reserve your place now for WAM Theatre’s Claiming Her Place benefit on Sunday, June 30 at 7:00 pm.

Susan Dworkin is a playwright, author, and lecturer. WAM Theatre presented the world premiere of her play “The Old Mezzo” last fall. Here’s how she claims her place.

What advice would you give to women who are just starting to establish themselves in their careers on how to claim their places confidently?

One of the most important things to know about claiming your place is that nobody is there already. Your place is reserved. It waits for you alone.  No matter how crowded the field seems, there’s always room for you.

Don’t be afraid of failure. I once interviewed Carol Burnett for Ms. and she said that she had learned nothing from success, that  her failures had taught her everything. The only real failure is failure to give it a shot.

When you seize your day, remember, you are not alone. The bonds that hold creative people together are as strong as silk. Sisterhood is powerful. So is brotherhood.
