The Future for WAM Theatre – An update from the WAM Team

Dear WAMily,

From day one, WAM has been a place of innovation, using art and activism to address gender inequity and highlight the stories of women and girls.

While our world has rapidly changed, WAM’s dedication to this mission, to you, and to the greater community has not.

WAM has always been a nimble and adaptable organization; our overhead is low and our creativity is high. In fact, we launched WAM during the recession of 2008. With your ongoing support, we will continue to connect and create change through theatre.

We are excited to announce that our devising ensembles, led by WAM’s dedicated Teaching Artists, are creating and collaborating on THE SUFFRAGE PROJECT through a virtual community this spring and summer. At this time, we are still planning our fall Mainstage production of ROE and the reading of THE THANKSGIVING PLAY in November. Look for updates on these programs later in the summer.

As a small, tight knit staff and board, we are committed to remaining connected, even with reduced staff hours, and are planning for WAM’s next decade. WAM is balancing the following three goals:

  1. To ensure WAM’s survival into 2021 and beyond with our arts and activism mission intact. This pandemic makes it even clearer how important it is to advocate for the rights of women and girls, especially those experiencing the most hardship at the moment.
  1. To ensure our valued staff can maintain their mental and financial health during this pandemic.
  1. To support our community during this crisis by raising awareness and funds for organizations working on the front lines.

Our dedicated supporters have already committed their time, energy, and financial resources to work with WAM in achieving these goals. We hope you will join us in this effort.

Like you, we are balancing gratitude and grief in this unique moment in time. We are thinking about our artistic colleagues and collaborators here in the Berkshires, especially those who are having to make extremely tough decisions for spring and summer seasons, as well as our activist colleagues and partners who are working 24/7 to ensure their constituents are cared for right now.

We look forward to sharing more in the coming weeks. In the meantime we are thinking of you and wishing you and your loved ones health and well-being.

In solidarity,

Kristen, on behalf of the WAM team and board
